The campaign was the first great offensive of the war, and it was begun in the greatest urgency. The preparation of this monograph has been attended by certain problems of a special nature. As a sufficient number of monographs are brought to completion, these in turn will be edited and condensed into a single operational history of the Marine Corps in World War II.
